Bridges

Dental Bridges are an extremely effective technique used to replace missing teeth that works by utilising the teeth on either side of the gap.

Many people opt for bridges to improve the appearance of their smile but there are several other factors that are worth taking into account. Leaving a missing tooth results in strain being placed on the teeth that remain, as they are no longer supported on either side. It can affect your bite if the remaining teeth move to fill in the gap, it can also result in food getting stuck in the space which can lead to both tooth decay and gum disease.

While bridges are an effective treatment for many people they are not suitable for everyone as their success depends on several other factors such as the condition of the remaining teeth.

If you are considering Dental Bridges we will give you a thorough examination to establish whether you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. If you’re not, we will work together to find an alternative solution that is tailor made for you.

Questions About Dental Bridges

During a bridge fit, you may have the area in question numbed with anaesthetic, which can take between 2 and 5 hours to wear off. The bridged area may feel tender and even slightly bruised after the procedure, which is totally normal for this treatment. This will resolve quite quickly. If it doesn’t – please do give us a call!
Yes you can but watch out until the anaesthetic wears off, no one likes to dribble! You may experience a little sensitivity over the first 24 to 48 hours, but this is totally normal and will resolve!
Don’t eat anything until the anaesthetic wears off as you may unknowingly bite your inner cheeks and lips, causing ulceration without even realising it. This is very sore afterwards so is best avoided! Once the anaesthetic has worn off, eat normally, but again be aware of a little sensitivity over the first 24 to 48 hours.
It can do, especially whilst the anaesthetic effects are on-going for the first 3 to 5 hours. Don’t worry, once this wears off things will return to normal. Do bear in mind having the previous space filled bridge may feel a little different at first.
This does depend entirely on the complexity of the specific treatment. Our team will let you know about each phase and expected timescale during the planning phase.
