Dr. Simon Poyner – Practice Owner & Clinical Director

Simon is the Practice owner here at Hartley, who took the helm from April 2022.
Simon is a born and bred Devonian, having been born in North Devon, before moving to Plymouth some 11 years ago. He now lives within walking distance of the practice along with his wife, Katy and their two young children.
Simon qualified from Peninsula Dental School in Plymouth in the class of 2015 as a Batchelor of Dental Science (BDS). He has since gone on to complete an enhanced Diploma in Restorative Dentistry, also at Peninsula Dental School, which he completed in 2020.
This additional qualification gives Simon enhanced competency in ‘restorative’ dentistry enabling him to carry out all aspects of general dentistry to an exceptional level - this includes cosmetic treatments, such as composite bonding. Simon prides himself on not only restoring teeth to that exceptional level, but is also completely health focused in hybrid, creating healthy and radiant smiles. He knows it’s about more than just ‘fixing teeth’ and that these treatments can transform his patients’ lives! He is also now a Clinical Supervisor at Peninsula Dental School, helping pass on his knowledge to the final year students and coach them into becoming great dentists too!
During his spare time (if he gets any these days), Simon enjoys playing tennis, golf or watching his beloved Tottenham Hotspur FC. He also has an active leadership role within a local church as he is passionate about bringing life, love, and faith to the city of Plymouth.
Dr. Dimple Patel - Associate Dentist with a special interest in Restorative Dentistry

Dimple has recently joined the practice having worked in Exeter and previously London but has chosen to enjoy the great outdoors lifestyle and beautiful beaches that Devon has to offer.
After graduating from Kings College London in 2005, Dimple has worked in several well established London practices whilst gaining further qualifications and has attained both the MFDS (Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery) and Diploma in Restorative Dental Practice with distinction from the highly esteemed Eastman Dental Institute. Her expertise is in ‘minimally invasive’, ‘adhesive’ and aesthetic dentistry which means restoring teeth to their natural beauty and function in the least destructive manner possible, using the latest modern materials and bonding techniques to achieve this goal. Her years of experience and caring, approachable manner means she has also been involved in mentoring and training new dental graduates.
When not practicing dentistry, you are most likely to find her exploring Devon whether that’s wild camping in Dartmoor or hiking coastal trails or trying out all the various outdoor activities that Devon has to offer.
Dr. Andrew Vulliamy - Implant Dentist.
GDC number: 114208.
Having gained an honors degree at Cardiff University dental school in 2007 Andrew went on to gain the postgraduate membership of the dental faculty (MJDF) in the Royal College of Surgeons, London. Following this he worked within several oral and maxillofacial surgery units in South Wales whilst working towards his medical degree, which he completed in 2013. He worked as a hospital doctor before returning to dental practice and subsequently completed his Masters degree in Implant Dentistry with the University of Bristol in 2019.
Andrew has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and skill in the field of oral surgery and implant dentistry and prides himself on providing care to a high clinical standard. He is an active member of the International Team of Implantology (ITI) attending regular courses and staying up to date with this rapidly advancing field of dentistry. Patient wellbeing and safety is paramount for Andrew and with his experience in hospital medicine he is confident managing patients with a range of complex medical problems.
Having recently returned from a year in Perth, Western Australia, Andrew is keen to demonstrate a modern approach to implant dentistry.
Outside of dentistry Andrew enjoys an outdoors existence and competes regularly in triathlon. However, surfing and windsurfing are his main pastime when the conditions are right.
Janie Harrison – Dental Hygienist.

Janie began her career as a dental nurse in the Royal Navy & qualified as a Hygienist in 2009. Her naval career spanned sixteen years, serving on various ships and shore based establishments across the globe before leaving the service in 2016. It’s fair to say that Janie has seen the world in all it’s glory!
Janie enjoys giving preventative dental health advice and seeing the benefits that this brings to our patients. In her spare time she enjoys travelling, skiing, paddle-boarding and spending time with her family and young son, Bobby. Most of all, she likes taking off on adventures in her camper van visiting the Cornish coast whenever possible to explore those beautiful surroundings.
Dean Hunt – Hygiene Therapist.

Dean provides treatments and advice to prevent dental problems. He is particularly interested in the treatment of periodontal disease and takes great pleasure in improving his customers health and smile. As a Hygiene Therapist, he is able to perform dental health checks, plan treatments for patients and perform certain restorative treatments such as fillings. In early 2020 Dean also gained a Diploma in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of Edinburgh (DT), making him the ‘go to guy’ for children’s oral health advice.
Laura Thornton – Trainee Dental Nurse.

Laura has joined Hartley as a trainee dental nurse, to help add strength and depth to our superb Nursing team. Laura will work alongside and be mentored by Lauren & Gemma, whilst she is completing her dental nursing qualification.
Laura is currently focussed on completing her dental nursing qualification.
She enjoys socialising with her friends and jetting off on sunny holidays as often as possible in her spare time, along with walking her dog Dumbo!
Lauren Green – Dental Nurse.

Lauren joined the team bringing with her 7 years of dental nursing experience and has worked in various dental practices across Devon in that time. Lauren has a desire to ensure that you have an exceptional experience whilst in the care of the Hartley Dental team.
In her spare time Lauren enjoys reading, walking and sampling cuisines from across the world.
Frankie Robins – Dental Nurse.
GDC number: 306522
Frankie has joined the team to further enhance our levels of expertise and nursing excellence. She brings with her 3 years of dental nursing experience, having worked for another practice in Plymouth during that time. Frankie is incredibly organised and brings superb time management skills to the nursing team, further adding to the smooth experience our patients have when visiting the practice.
In her spare time Frankie loves to socialising with friends and enjoying the beautiful Plymouth coast line.
Edd Jones – Business Manager.
Edd has been with Hartley for 7 years and takes care of all the ‘back of house’ tasks. He get’s all the REALLY fun jobs, like processing the salaries & wages, writing policies and ensuring we are constantly trying to improve the services we offer our patients.
He is also good at giving Simon a nudge in the right direction whenever he needs it…
Edd also owns his own businesses within and outside Dentistry and splits his time between the Practice and those other business endeavors.
Edd has a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management, along with various team leading & customer service qualifications.
Beth Carhart - Customer Service Champion.
Beth joins the Practice to work on Front of House. She brings with her excellent customer service experience, having worked for a recognised high street construction supplier in the past.
Beth brings with her fantastic levels of customer service experience and will be a real asset, with her customer service experience.
In her spare time Beth loves spending time with her young daughter, going on all sorts of different adventures!
Karen Davis - Customer Service Champion.
Karen joined the team in February 2024, to further add to the effectiveness of our front of house team. Karen has lots of customer service & dental experience and is a real asset to the team.
