What is a ‘Dental Hygienist’ & what do they do?

The key role of a Dental Hygienist is to prevent dental problems. This is primarily achieved through preventative dental treatments, coupled with a proactive approach to maintaining healthy teeth & gums. We don’t just want to be fixing dental problems, we want to help you avoid them in the first place!Dean & Janie are experts in treating and more importantly, preventing gum disease, along with its more nasty sidekick periodontal disease. Dean is also a Dental Therapist, read more about that side of his role here. They work closely with Charlie to make sure the treatments you receive are consistent and in your best interests. We actively encourage all our patients to see a Dental Hygienist at least every 6 months. This allows them to remove all that nasty plaque from between your teeth & polish them, giving that clean feel and better appearance. The ethos of Hartley Dental Practice is a simple one. Keep our patient’s natural teeth in their mouths for a lifetime. Simple. The main part of this ethos is to help ensure our patients complete the appropriate home care routines. These routines are vital for maintaining those healthy teeth and gums. Dean & Janie will talk to you about diet, lifestyle habits, smoking cessation and which dental products would work best for you e.g. dental floss & an electric toothbrush. The care offered by Dean & Janie forms the centre of our approach to proactive dental care and we are proud to be a Hygiene Led Dental Practice! If you would like to benefit from our preventative and proactive approach to dental care, just call 01752 661361 and the team will take you through how to join the practice.
